withinandbeyondtheframe asked: Did you liked Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris ? by the way I have a profound love for your tumblr.
I actually didn’t like Allen’s Midnight in Paris. I have never seen a Woody Allen movie that I didn’t like and I have seen many, many of his films from all different time periods and styles.
For some reason Midnight in Paris struck me as possessing a sort of humor that was very basic and easily understood. It seemed as if Allen had thrown out his witty, high-brow jokes for a universally “funny” type of humor.
I found this to be most obvious in how he portrayed The Surrealists. I love surrealism and thought oh haha Dali loves anteaters but it was just sort of like…well, that’s such an obvious joke to make. Surrealists are weird! Ha! As well, I thought the entire “WOAH DEAD CELEBRITY” thing got to lose it’s wow factor very quickly.
I can’t fully explain it, but I found this to be the weakest Woody Allen film I have seen to date. It just wasn’t for me. For my favorite Allen movies I would watch Crimes and Misdemeanors, Deconstructing Harry, and, of course, Annie Hall. I recently watched Celebrity and also loved that!
BUT the gentleman that played Hemingway was fantastic. Probably the best part of the movie for me.
